The School - Stage Experience
Dance is a performing art. While there is a great deal of satisfaction from in-class work, the greatest thrill of all is performing. For young students through Preparatory II, there will be an end of year demonstration for families in our mini theatre. Eligible (see attendance) Ballet I students and up, have the opportunity to perform in a yearly Spring Concert performance. Older students may have additional opportunities throughout the year through lecture demonstrations and participation in Company performances.
We feel that class time is very valuable for teaching, learning and improving technique. Additional times will be scheduled for rehearsals, approximately six weeks before performance time. Performances are conducted in a professional manner and serve as a learning opportunity for the children. This experience teaches them how ballets are put together, on stage and behind the scenes. Preparation, presentation and protocol are all part of the experience. Preparatory Ballet students serve as ushers during the Spring Concert and through this experience, begin to get a feel for the process and what they have to look forward to when they reach Ballet I. It is also a tremendous learning opportunity for all the children to get a glimpse of what dance has in store for them through future years. All costumes worn by children for our full-length ballets are property of the ballet company and will reflect costume styles historically worn by children and appropriate for children. Costumes purchased by the child’s family for a spring concert performance will be property of that family.
