The Kingsport Ballet is a non-profit, 501-c-3, ballet school and dance company, in operation since 1983. The current organization is the result of a merger between the State of Franklin Dance Alliance (SFDA) and the Kingsport Guild of Ballet (KGB). The KGB studio was purchased in 1999 by seven area volunteers called the Parents Coalition. Their goal was to preserve the standards and teaching quality with which the school was created. Under their leadership the organization has grown into a strong, well-rounded arts organization with a community focus. Continuing to grow and adapt to a changing environment, Kingsport Ballet has now moved to a new location with twice the space for more and larger studios. Kingsport Ballet has long been known for having a strong volunteer work force, which devotes many hours to everything from designing and creating costumes, administrative duties, carpentry work and backstage management, to comprehensive advertising campaigns.
